£150 energy rebate for households - payments made for DD customers

The £150 Council Tax Energy Rebate payments have commenced to households that pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit and we have received a 2022/23 payment.   Over 27,000 payments being made on 24th May 2022. This will be shown on your bank statement as ‘N E DERBYSHIRE D C’.

Why is the government providing support?

From 1 April 2022, the energy price cap has risen, and many households will struggle to pay higher energy bills and to heat their homes.

Am I eligible for the £150 payment?

You are eligible if:

  • your home in council tax bands A to D, and;
  • it was your sole or main residence on 1 April 2022, and
  • you are liable for council tax, or would be if your property were not exempt

If you pay less than £150 council tax, or you receive single person discount, or do not pay because you receive council tax support, you will still be entitled to the payment.

The payment will not be made for empty or second homes, or to non-resident landlords.

I pay my council tax by Direct Debit

The £150 Council Tax Energy Rebate payments have commenced to households that pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit and we have received a 2022/23 payment.   Over 27,000 payments being made on 24th May 2022. This will be shown on your bank statement as ‘N E DERBYSHIRE D C’.

We also have a number of accounts where the name on the Council Tax account does not match the name on the bank account and also where we hold bank details but we have not received a 2022/23 payment.

Verification checks are still ongoing for remaining Direct Debit accounts and these payments will be made to verified accounts as soon as possible. Verification checks and payments are being processed as quickly as possible and we ask you to be patient at this time.

Please do not contact us at this time to find out what date you will be paid as this may delay us being able to process the payments.

Non-Direct Debit Payers

The Post Office have now started issuing the £150 Energy Rebate Vouchers that can be redeemed at any Post Office for those qualifying households that have not already received the payment into their bank account. These will be delivered in batches over the next few days with them all expected to have arrived by 21 June.

The Post Office can only make payments to you if you present the letter issued to you and sufficient identification. Therefore, please do not go to the Post Office until you have your letter.

Does this mean I don’t have to pay my council tax bill?

No – you must continue to pay your council tax bill as per the amounts and dates shown on your bill. If you are struggling to pay, please contact our Revenues Customer Services Team on 01246 217600

There will be a discretionary scheme for those households who occupy a band E to H property.

We are currently working on our scheme. Once the eligibility criteria has been established, we will update this page with the details of who may be eligible and how they can apply.

We are asking our residents to be aware of scam callers and not to share their bank details in order to receive £150 payment. Please do not give your bank details to anyone claiming to be from the council. We will never contact you to ask for your bank details by phone, text or e-mail.

Please make sure that any communication you receive is from North East Derbyshire District Council or the post office before providing any payment details.
