Christmas Care Appeal brings festive cheer to care home residents

A big thank you to everyone who has supported an appeal to bring Christmas cheer to hundreds of care home residents in North East Derbyshire.

North East Derbyshire District Council, together with its housing partner Rykneld Homes, invited local communities to donate gifts to the Care at Christmas Appeal or make a donation to buy presents for those who face not seeing family and friends over the holiday because of Covid-19.

The appeal raised more than £2,500, alongside gift donations left at the Council’s offices in Wingerworth. The total was reached thanks to support from residents and local businesses who were happy to make a donation to the cause.

The Council and Rykneld Homes have been out delivering the presents to more than 20 homes across the district, ready for Christmas Day.

Councillor Alan Powell, portfolio holder for Communities at North East Derbyshire District Council said, “Thank you so much to all the residents and businesses who have supported this Appeal. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

“There are many residents in care home who won’t be able to see their families on Christmas Day, and there also those without families or no outside support who often feel isolated.

“With this appeal we wanted to spread a little Christmas cheer for them with a gift to open on Christmas Day.”

Business donations were made by:  Farrendale, Curtins, Nationwide Windows, Travis Perkins, SBS, Tomlinsons, Arcus, Mercer, Parsons, Mickley Subcontractors and A Rock Construction.
