Clay Cross gets £500k investment for imminent redevelopment in the area

North East Derbyshire District Council and the Clay Cross Town Board are delighted to announce the receipt of a £500,000 grant from the Government as part of the Clay Cross Town Deal initiative.

This means the Council can kick-start some of the proposed projects for Clay Cross which were highlighted in the recent consultation and are part of the emerging Clay Cross Town Investment Plan which was developed throughout the summer of 2020 and establishes an exciting and ambitious vision for the town.

The funding enables work to begin on demolishing poor quality and derelict buildings in the area in preparation for the final bid which has been placed for the town to receive its share of the £3.6bn Towns Fund.

North East Derbyshire District Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Councillor Carolyn Renwick, said, “What an incredible opportunity this is to receive £500,000 to invest into Clay Cross. The consultation process over the summer saw the vast majority of residents were overwhelmingly in favour of what we are proposing to do with the town and this investment means we can get the fantastic plans and projects for Clay Cross moving very quickly”.

“The caveat of spending the £500k funding this financial year means that the town will start to see plenty of work being undertaken in the near future and believe that this investment is just the start of an exciting and vibrant future for Clay Cross.”

Chair of the Clay Cross Town Board, Gary Golden, said, “We are delighted to receive this fantastic grant from the Government which will immediately be invested in improving Clay Cross and starting the regeneration process to get the town thriving again”.

It is an incredibly exciting time for the town with work able to begin very shortly on the projects outlined during the consultation in the summer which will bring investment and new jobs to the town”.

The funding will support longer term projects that are contained in the emerging Clay Cross Town Investment Plan and will be submitting to Government for further funding before 30th October.  You can find out more information about the Clay Cross Investment Plan on the Council’s website, www.ne-derbyshire.gov.uk.
