Street cleansing and grounds maintenance services in North East Derbyshire are amongst some of the best in the country.
North East Derbyshire District Council’s refuse team was nominated for Best Performer awards in the annual Association of Public Service Excellence (APSE) awards.
The team picked up finalist awards in ‘Street Cleansing’ and ‘Parks, Open Spaces and Horticultural Services’, after being pipped to the winners post by Eastleigh Borough Council in both categories.
Cllr Charlotte Cupit, Cabinet member for the Environment, said: “We are delighted to have been nominated for the awards, which is all down to the dedication and hard work of our staff and underlines our commitment to providing the very best services for local people.
“Ensuring we have clean and green streets is a key part of this Council’s plan/priorities.”
The street cleansing team sweep and clean around 470 miles of roads every year on varying daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly and quarterly frequencies and empty 665 litter and pet waste bins each week and our grounds maintenance team maintains 378 hectares of ground equivalent to 969 football pitches.
