Brass bands battled it out recently in the North East Derbyshire Brass band Festival, filling Dronfield Sports Centre with fantastic notes and renditions that left the audience delighted! The bands were given a standing ovation for their fantastic efforts but only one could be crowned winner.
The audience was treated to fantastic melodies and superb musical arrangements. Dubbed ‘the best Brass Band Festival yet’, the bands delighted their fans and everyone present.
In a close fought contest, Dronfield Genquip Band pipped everyone to the post being crowned overall winners with Shirebrook Miners Welfare Band coming second and Bakewell Silver Band finishing third.
During the event money was raised for the Chair of North East Derbyshire District Council’s appeal in aid of local charity Sheffield Children’s Hospital PACT (Parents Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia).
Councillor Carol Huckerby, Chair of North East Derbyshire District Council said:
“We had a fantastic array of talent on show at the Festival. We were treated to an incredible evening of brass which wowed the audience all evening. Congratulations to all who took part and a special thanks to everyone who donated to my charity while in office this year. I was overwhelmed by the generosity and cannot thank everyone enough for their support.
I would also like to thank our sponsors, whose kind support has once again helped us to hold the festival and to maintain the rich heritage and significance of brass bands to our district. My gratitude and appreciation go to Bolsover Land ltd, who this year kindly sponsored the festival’s second prize, the NEDDC’s shield.
My gratitude also goes to Avonside, Alpha Heating, A-Rock Construction, Buildbase, Nationwide Windows, Bamford Doors, Parsons, Shacklocks, St Modwen Homes, Sustainable Building Services (UK ltd), WM Lee, Rykneld Homes and Xn leisure, whose kind generosity made all the difference”.
