First ever Civic Cadet sworn in at NEDDC

North East Derbyshire District Council was delighted to announce the appointment of Cadet Lance Corporal John Martin as a Civic Cadet at the Council meeting held on 13th January 2020.

Cadet L/Cpl John Martin was formally sworn in as a 2020-2021 Civic Cadet for North East Derbyshire. The Cadet signed pledges to support the Council Chair and Armed Forces Member Champion carry out their duties and to be an ambassador for the Armed Forces Community and Cadet Detachments.

The appointment of a Civic Cadet position marked a momentous occasion for the Council, as John is now the first ever cadet to be sworn in by the Authority.

John, 16, who is part of the Chesterfield Royal Marine Cadets, was presented with a commemorative certificate and badge by Council Chair Councillor Carol Huckerby, Vice-Chair Councillor Pat Antcliff and Council Leader and Armed Forces Member Champion Councillor Martin Thacker MBE.

Councillor Martin Thacker, Leader of the Council said, “We are proud to appoint John as the District’s first ever Civic Cadet. He has already impressed us with his application and dedication to his local area. I am sure that he will play an important role in helping the Council to promote its support to the Armed Forces Community.”

“This appointment, as well as our work with partners to organise VE Day 75 Year Anniversary events in May 2020 and provision of assistance and information to residents who are part of the Armed Forces Community, show our ongoing commitment to the delivery of the Derbyshire Armed Forces Covenant.
