Fly tipping and illegal waste collection

Due to recent circumstances, there has been an increase in illegal waste collection and unlicensed waste collectors trying to take advantage of the situation.

Your waste is likely to end up fly tipped if it is collected by an unlicensed waste collector and may be traced back you, in which case you will receive a £200 fixed penalty notice.

If someone approaches you and offers to remove your waste for a fee or you arrange waste collection through social media, please check that they have a valid waste carriers licence. If they don’t, please do not use them and report them to us for advertising unlicensed waste collection.

Two £200 fines have been paid this week by householders for failing in their duty of care to ensure they transfer waste onto someone who is authorised to carry it. Don’t let it happen to you.

You can check if someone has a valid waste carrier licence by checking the public register.
