North East Derbyshire District Council has today made the decision to close its leisure centres as the health and wellbeing of all its customers is the Council’s absolute priority.
Following the Government advice to avoid close contact in venues such as bars, cafés and theatres, along with the recent update from the Government to close schools from Friday 20 March, we have taken the decision to close our leisure facilities from 10 pm on the 20th March until further notice.
All our memberships, swimming lessons and dry courses have been suspended, meaning all direct debits will be frozen from April 2020 during this period and pre-paid memberships/activities will be extended for the period of closure upon re-opening. Members do not have to do anything regarding payments as it is taken care of.
Councillor Martin Thacker, Leader of the Council said, “The safety of our leisure centre members, visitors and staff are our utmost priority. Acting upon Government advice it is in everyone’s best interest that we close our centres for the safety of all”.
“We will be using the time of closure productively, staff will be redeployed to help deliver our Community Support initiative to help the most vulnerable in our district during this pandemic and they will be deep cleaning the facilities and undertaking essential maintenance during this time”.
As the situation is fluid and constantly changing, we will provide regular updates on our website and social media platforms on activities to do at home along with all relevant information regarding re-opening.
