North East Derbyshire District Council’s refuse and recycling and street cleansing teams are amongst the best in the country after they received ‘Best Performer’ awards at the annual Association of Public Service Excellence (APSE) awards.
The council’s parks, open spaces and horticultural services also received the ‘Most Improved Performer’ award at the highly coveted event.
North East Derbyshire District Council Cabinet Member for the Environment, Councillor Charlotte Cupit said: “We are delighted to win these national awards which is all down to the dedication and hard work of our staff who continue to go above and beyond to help serve our residents and businesses of North East Derbyshire.
“The magnitude of the work they undertake is incredible - the street cleansing team sweep 470 miles of roads each year and empty almost 700 litter and pet waste bins each week. The grounds maintenance team maintain the equivalent of 989 football pitches and our refuse team collect 3.4 million bins each year at the authority!”
“On top of all this, I would particularly like to thank staff for their incredible efforts to maintain services given the challenges of covid-19 and bringing recycling collections in house over the last year.”
APSE is the foremost specialist in local authority frontline service providers.
