Road closure fees waived and grants available as part of the King’s Coronation celebrations

North East Derbyshire District Council is proud to inform residents who are wishing to celebrate the King’s Coronation in May that road closure fees have been waived for street parties and groups can apply for grants to support celebrations in the community.

To help residents celebrate over the Bank Holiday weekend, starting with His Majesty, King Charles III's Coronation on 8 May, the council is inviting applications from community led groups to apply for community action grants and has waived the criteria stating that community groups can only apply once in a 12 month period for this event.

Further to this, the council is pleased to confirm that temporary road closure fees will also be waived to support communities getting together, making it easier to join in the celebrations of this momentous occasion.

North East Derbyshire District Council Leader, Cllr Alex Dale said, “The Kings Coronation will be a hugely important occasion to remember, for its historical importance and for the opportunity to bring communities together.

“We want to support our community to mark this very special occasion with an extended grant scheme that will boost this celebratory event and have a lasting legacy for years to come.”

Recognising the time it takes to organise and publicise events, we are encouraging groups to apply as soon as possible.  To ensure grants can be paid up front, the deadline for applications is 9am Monday 13th March 2023. You can apply for the grants and a road closure on our road closure webpage. You can find further information and how to apply for a Community action grant on the Community Action Grant webpage.
