Second hand clothes

Second Hand September

Second Hand September is a time to try a more planet-friendly way to shop, and in doing so you will take a stance against the impact of fast fashion.

Fashion is one of the largest drivers of climate change; from the production, transportation of clothes and a throwaway culture which leaves millions of clothes in landfills every year.

Therefore, by recirculating our clothes through buying, wearing, and donating we can reduce the demand and damage to the planet.

You can find second hand items in charity stores and online through charity websites, Vinted, Depop, Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, ASOS Marketplace, Olio and Gumtree. If you’re unsure about wearing second-hand clothes you can filter for new clothes on some of these sites.

If you buy clothes from a charity store you can return them at any branch.

To donate clothes, you can go to charity stores, post your donations or take them to clothes or textile banks. Additionally, you can make use of the sites listed above to sell or giveaway unwanted items.

What types of clothes you can donate:

  • Good condition, clean clothing – including children’s clothing, vintage clothes, and out of season items
  • Shoes in pairs of all styles
  • Accessories, including bags, non-prescription sunglasses, belts, hats, scarves and gloves
  • Jewellery
  • Handmade clothing
  • Damaged or low-grade items can be donated as these can be sold on by the charity to recycling traders to be repurposed

Cannot accept:

  • Identifiable work uniforms

If you’re unsure contact your local charity store for advice.
