Short delay to start of green bin collections

North East Derbyshire District Council have recently moved recycling collections (burgundy bins) in-house due to the Council’s former recycling contractor entering administration.

In order to ensure all new vehicles are safe and ready to serve the district, and to enable all other collections to continue, it will mean that garden waste collections will now commence one collection later than planned -  from 15 March 2021 instead of the 1 March for those using the North calendar and 22 March instead of 8 March for those in the South of the district.

Cllr Charlotte Cupit, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, said, “We are really disappointed to have to announce a short delay to the start of this year’s garden waste collections and had been doing everything we could to try to avoid this.

“We’ve been working incredibly hard behind the scenes to avoid any disruption and I’m very grateful to Streetscene staff for all their work to quickly react to these changes and maintain services, and I hope residents will understand this very short delay.

“Due to these exceptional circumstances, we are delaying the first garden waste collection to ensure that black and recycling (burgundy) bins can be collected as normal, and we will commence green bins collections for all households two weeks later than planned.”
