Barlow Woodseats Hall is a Grade II* listed Manor House situated on Jonnygate Lane at the edge of the village of Barlow, in North East Derbyshire. The present Hall is Jacobean and dates from 1624 but there has been a house here from at least 1269. It is a place steeped in history.

The site was once occupied by one of Derbyshire's best-known historical figures, Bess of Hardwick who married the owner of the Hall; Robert Barlow subsequently died in 1544. He was the first of her four husbands even though she was only 14. Bess of Hardwick ‘officiandos’ will want to visit and walk in her footsteps!

On arrival at the Hall at 1.00pm you will receive a welcome drink. Weather depending, there will be time for lawn games or a chat as you admire the ostentation of splendid peacocks that live in the gardens.

There is opportunity to visit the Hall, which is in private ownership and NOT open to the public. The current incumbents have kindly agreed to allow people inside for an exclusive tour of the first floor.

Separate to the Hall is a Tudor cruck barn, dated 1530. It is believed to be the longest continuous roofed barn in Derbyshire of this age. At 2.00pm we will be enjoying a sumptuous meal in the cruck barn, which will be a Sunday lunch platter of Pork and Chicken with all the sides and a selection of desserts. You will be assured of fine Derbyshire dining.

The cost is £35 per person. To book places please contact Tina Bamford on telephone number: 01246 217396 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
