Deaf Awareness Week

Deaf Awareness Week

Deaf Awareness week is 6th May - 12th May.

Did you know there are over 11 million people in the UK are deaf or have hearing loss. Today starts the beginning of deaf awareness week. Deafness and hearing loss can have a range of challenging implications, especially when it comes to communication. There is a diverse range of methods that deaf people and people with hearing loss can communicate. This can range from British Sign language to lip reading to using technology such as hearing aids and text messages.

BSL speakers can contact the Council through its signvideo service. A three way video call with us and a BSL interpreter. It is free to call North East Derbyshire District Council with Sign Solutions, you just need wifi or mobile data to make the video call or call into the offices at Wingerworth.

The aim of deaf awareness week is to shine a light on how you can support the deaf community and become deaf aware.
